In December 2011, Toyota Motors and BMW entered into an agreement, honoring which, the two corporations will focus on developing advanced lithium-ion batteries as well as explore other fuel-saving technologies.
Following the announcement, CTEK, a Sweden-based battery chargers, care and maintenance provider has implored that more vehicle manufacturers should collaborate resources to develop greener technologies.
The Head – Brand & Marketing at CTEK, Jan-ulf Soderberg explained that in order to guarantee the longevity of vehicle driving, responsible vehicle manufacturers are constantly devoting time and research into developing technology to safeguard the natural resources. Soderberg commented that the decision made by BMW and Toyota Motors is a collaborative decision to ensure better results.
The first project between the German and Japanese manufacturers will be the joint research on batteries suitable for green cars. Diesel engines with 1.6 and 2 liter capacity will be supplied to the Japanese manufacturer by BMW in 2014 for developing of models suitable for the European market.
CTEK plays a responsible role in the promotion of green motoring. Its fully automatic, reverse polarity protected and spark-proof Smart Battery Charger not only charges the battery but also extends the lifetime by conditioning lead-acid batteries, which in turns leads to lesser number of discarded batteries. Soderberg also added that the 12 V or 24 V battery charger from CTEK helps avoid the expense of replacing a battery and in the long term helps reduce the carbon footprint.
