BLT Enterprises has engaged SPI Solar, which is a main developer of vertically integrated solar products, for the design and construction of a DC distributed generation photovoltaic (PV) solar energy facility (SEF), with a capacity of 400 kW.
This SEF will help to produce power at the U.S. Test Center California (TCC) in Volkswagen that includes an Emissions Laboratory and a Technical Center in California.
Currently, BLT is constructing this 63,500 square-foot facility, which will be one of the greatest power train development and emissions testing units for the automobile industry. A variety of products from Volkswagen Group like Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Volkswagen will be making use of this new center.
SPI is designing the SEF that will use combined carport and rooftop structures in order to include the onsite solar array. BLT has got this SEF as the second significant system from SPI. During January, 2011, SPI completed a 398 kW solar system at BLT’s modern waste-recovery operation unit in California.
According to SPI Solar’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Kircher, the company is happy to have a long-lasting business relationship with BLT. This SEF is the second large-scale system that will be designed and built by SPI Solar for BLT. The company is expecting to integrate this system into more of their future buildings.
BLT’s Chief Development and Legal Officer, Rob Solomon stated that increase in the cost of conventionally sourced energy has resulted in onsite deployment of more sustainable energy platforms that decrease the cost of long-term operations.
SPI has planned to commence the SEF construction during the Q1 of 2012.
