Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES Canada) has received the balance of plant (BOP) contract to construct the 150 MW Halkirk wind project.
This project is currently being constructed and is the largest wind project in Alberta. Capital Power LP (CPLP), who is the owner and developer of the project, had selected RES Canada.
According to Jason Zingerman, Vice President of Construction, RES Canada has entered into the renewable energy market of Alberta with the Halkirk wind construction project. This will be the company’s first wind project being constructed in West Canada, as the company continues to expand its ecological footprint. Zingerman added that this wind project will be the first RES Canada’s project for Capital Power. The company is expecting to form a strong professional relationship with Capital Power.
The location of the Halkirk wind project is in central Alberta, which is 122 km towards the eastern part of Red Deer. The project will include 83 V90 1.8 Vestas turbines. The Halkirk wind project will have the capacity to produce power for around 50,000 average Alberta homes, when completed.
According to Darcy Trufyn, Capital Power’s senior VP of Construction and Engineering, the Halkirk project is the first wind project for Capital Power in Alberta. It is expected to be completed during the Q4 of 2012 and is one of the four wind power units, which are now under construction in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
