Siemens Energy announced that it has secured two major contracts to supply 90 wind turbines for two wind power projects, Korat 1 and Korat 2, in Nakorn Rachasrima Province, Thailand.
K.R. Two Company is the customer for Korat 1 project, and First Korat Wind is the purchaser for Korat 2 wind power project. Both firms are subsidiaries of Wind Energy, a Thailand-based renewable energy company.
Under the terms of the contracts, Siemens Energy will supply, install and commission 90 units of SWT-2.3-101 type wind turbines. The total capacity of the two Korat wind power plants is approximately 200 MW. The installation work will be commenced in spring 2012 and commissioning is expected to start at the end of 2012.
The SWT-2.3-101 turbines have a rotor diameter of 101 m and a tower height of 99.5 m. Each turbine has a capacity of 2.3 MW and will deliver high energy at lower wind speeds. In addition, the SWT-2.3-101 turbine considerably increases the return on investment (ROI) of wind power plants. The nacelles and blades required for the two projects will be produced in China.
Siemens Wind Power Business Unit’s CEO, Kay Weber noted that the current orders in Thailand represent the company’s commitment towards internationalization strategy. Recently, Siemens has signed two joint venture agreements with Shanghai Electric to better serve the Chinese wind power sector.
