GRID Alternatives, a non-profit solar installation company, has signed a 2012 supplier agreement with SunPower, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of high reliability, high efficiency solar panels and systems.
As per the agreement, SunPower will deliver high efficiency solar panels to GRID Alternatives, which will be used to power low-income homes across California and Colorado in 2012. The contract has been signed on March 2, 2012 and SunPower has been named as GRID Alternatives’ official solar panel provider for the current year. Both the companies have inaugurated the new alliance by installing a SunPower’s solar electric system over the rooftop of a low-income household in San Francisco, California.
GRID Alternatives and SunPower have worked together for the last six years and have helped hundreds of families to benefit from the solar energy. This alliance is anticipated to produce a total energy savings of more than $10 million for these families over the lifetime of the solar systems.
Tom Werner, President and CEO of SunPower, stated that the collaboration with GRID Alternatives supports the company’s commitment to establish clean-powered communities across the world. Tim Sears, Program Director and Co-Founder of GRID Alternatives, added that they are trying to bring solar power to modest houses with small roofs and SunPower's high efficiency panels help to meet the solar needs of low-income families.
