Tioga Energy, a renewable energy company, has completed the first of the two solar projects developed through a funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The company has completed a 249 kW solar electric system installation at the rooftop of BJ's Wholesale Club facility in Deer Park, New York. The two NYSERDA-funded projects will total approximately 850 kW of renewable energy and they will bring Tioga Energy’s solar installation portfolio in New York to about 1 MW.
Tioga Energy has constructed and financed the Deer Park renewable energy project, which was commissioned in late 2011. The company owns and manages the 249 kW system and has also signed a 20-year SurePath Solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with BJ’s Wholesale Club. Under the terms of the agreement, BJ’s Wholesale Club will purchase the solar-generated electricity from Tioga Energy at reduced cost.
EmPower Solar, headquartered in Island Park, New York, has offered engineering and installation services for the project. The Deer Park project is the fifth collaboration between Tioga Energy and BJ’s Wholesale Club and together they have made approximately 2,000 kW installations at the club’s locations in the East Coast.
Francis J. Murray Jr., NYSERDA’s President and CEO, stated that the BJ’s Wholesale Club’s investment in clean energy benefits both the business and the environment.
Tioga Energy will announce the second solar system developed through NYSERDA in the spring 2012.
