WELTEC BIOPOWER, a producer and distributor of complete biogas plants made of stainless steel, has started the construction of a biogas park in Arneburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany in March 2012.
The plant has a capacity to produce approximately 6 million cubic metres of biomethane per year. Nordmethan Produktion Arneburg, based in Magdeburg, Germany, operates the biogas park.
The biogas will be produced in one liquid reservoir, four fermenters and six digestate storage units and will be transferred into the gas grid. The plant is scheduled to commence its first biomethane transfer in December 2012. The amount of biomethane produced by the Arneburg-based refinery will be adequate to deliver heat and energy required by approximately 5,000 homes or 4,200 cars with a mileage of about 18,000 miles per year.
The plant’s sustainability concept is established on a site of approximately 6 ha. The concept will utilize renewable raw materials and digestate, a nutrient-rich solid material produced by anaerobic digestion of a biodegradable feedstock, from 30 farms. It has also been ensured that the cultivators, who will also utilize the solid material, need not travel over 9 mi. to supply the digestate. This effort represents an additional step towards consistent supply of energy along with ecological sustainability and a high level of energy efficiency.
In addition to offering new jobs, the biogas project will create a foundation for new regional value chains.
