Stion will commence the commercial shipment of thin-film solar modules that were manufactured at its 500 MW manufacturing facility in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The modules have been certified by International Electrotechnical Commissions (IEC) and Underwriters Laboratories and have a minimum power of about 140 MW. The first phase of Stion’s Mississippi facility has a production capacity of 100 MW per year, which is comparable to about 25,000 residential solar power generating systems.
Stion’s CEO, Chet Farris remarked that they are happy to reach this milestone, which reinforces their position as a US-based solar module manufacturer. The modules are produced using an industry proven manufacturing equipment. They feature a simple, robust monolithic circuit design and are mainly developed for application in major markets, including utility, government or municipality, commercial and residential. The thin-film solar modules from Stion’s Hattiesburg facility also feature a convenient form factor of 65x165 cm, which supports efficient installation. The ratio of module’s field performance test condition (PFC) and standard test condition (STC) is greater than the competitive products. Stion will exhibit its modules at the PV America exhibition, which will be held in San Jose, California.
Stion will continue to expand its San Jose headquarters as well as its Hattiesburg solar module manufacturing plant. The company is also forming a Korean subsidiary along with AVACO, an equipment supplier, to construct a manufacturing facility to better serve the European and Asian markets.
