GE Supplies Wind Turbines for Tayakadin Wind Project in Istanbul, Turkey

GE Energy, a company that serves the energy sector, has announced at the European Wind Energy Association’s EWEA 2012 annual event that it will deliver 1.6-100 wind turbines to the Tayakadin wind project at Istanbul in Turkey.

The project will produce clean electricity using wind. This will become the first installation of the GE 1.6-100 wind turbine in Europe.

The Turkish government has planned to improve the wind energy generation by 20000 MW in 2023. The 50 MW Tayakadin project facilitates the government to reach its objective. In Europe, Turkey is one of the suitable places to develop wind energy. About 48000 MW of wing energy can be produced in the country. However, only 1800 MW of wind energy has been produced through the wind farms in the country and the remaining capacity has not yet been used.

A subsidiary of Fiba Group, Fina Enerji, which is involved in energy business, will handle the project. The company has already installed 35 units of GE 2.5-100 wind turbines that produce 87.5 MW of energy in total at its two wind power project locations in the Hatay and Izmir provinces. Tayakadin is the third location to feature 31 units of GE 1.6-100 wind turbines. The power produced through this project can provide electricity to over 14000 houses in Turkey.

GE will also provide technical advisory and commissioning services to the project. The project is anticipated to be completed by Q1 of 2013.

GE expects to install over 1200 units of 1.6-100 wind turbines in the US by the next two years.
