The Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im Bank) of the US has presented the Renewable-Energy Exporter of the Year award to Northern Power Systems, a manufacturer of wind turbine products. The company is exporting its NPS 100 wind turbines for hybrid power uses and European Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) wind-farms.
It has recently used Renewable Express financing from Ex-Im Bank to ship 55 units of 100 kW wind turbines for Italy’s new FIT projects. These turbines are installed in different wind farms to produce power for local business and supply power to the grid.
According to the President and Chairman of the Ex-Im Bank, Fred P. Hochberg, Northern Power Systems is an excellent model of innovation and creates jobs for Americans by facilitating other countries to satisfy their energy requirements. The bank had financed over $720 million for the renewable energy projects in the financial year 2011 and continues to extend its support for this important industry, he added.
The company’s next generation permanent magnet direct drive (PM/DD) wind turbine technology uses both direct-drive design and permanent magnet generator. Due to this technology, minimum moving parts are used, more energy is captured, and downtime and maintenance expenditure are reduced, which offers higher consistency.
The company supplies NPS 100 wind turbines, which are modeled specifically for distributed wind usage including commercial farms, businesses, schools, diesel-powered remote communities and municipalities.
The company is involved in the design, production and distribution of wind turbines for the international market sector. The head office of the company is based in Vermont, USA.
