Baker Electric Solar and the Straub – Martin Harris Joint Venture have received the Project of Distinction Award from the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) for the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters, BEQ-9 design-build project built at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms. The awards recognize key achievements of companies in the U.S. solar energy market sectors.
In order to be eligible to receive the award, it is essential that the project is functional, is advantageous to the community as a whole and implements financing and policy innovatively. A panel of judges from the government, producers, utilities, distributors, consultants and associations assessed over 80 companies for this award.
The BEQ-9 building project has a 1.5 MW solar energy system, which powers three, four- floor BEQ buildings with 576 two-person rooms, outdoor amphitheater with 500 seats, 706-space 4-story parking garage and a landmark projection tower. The project includes 4,680 SunPower E19/318 Solar Panels.
The four solar installations ensure significant energy savings for the military base and at the same time offer premium shading for the amphitheater, two parking areas and the recreational park.
It was confirmed using sophisticated 3D modeling that every installed module can be used, generates power as well as retains the architectural beauty. Further, the PV system was successfully included in the building management system and the central control panel of the military base is connected with the system performance meters, inverters and the weather station as well.
