Sustainable Power Group, a company specializing in electrical production systems, has declared the rooftop installation and commissioning of solar power systems at the HPER East Building, University of Utah and the Natural History Museum of Utah.
The combined solar systems include a 263 kW system for HPER East and a 330 kW system for the Natural History Museum. The systems occupy 40,000 sq. ft space at the rooftop and contain 2,470 photovoltaic panels from Sharp. These modules are produced at Memphis in Tennessee, US.
The company has associated with Okland Construction located at Salt Lake City in Utah and McCalmont Engineering at Campbell for constructing, and designing and engineering the systems, respectively.
sPower has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with the University of Utah to market the power generated from the solar system. The project has been funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and Rocky Mountain Power under a Blue Sky Grant, which helped the company to enter into a contract. The company will own and operate the project for 20 years.
The solar power produced is anticipated to compensate carbon dioxide emissions, which will be equal to planting 28,368 trees or sequestering carbon from 2,360 ac of fir or pine forests.
The company owns, develops, and operates electrical production systems throughout Canada and the US. Its head office is based at Salt Lake City in Utah.
