SunPower, a manufacturer of solar panels, has installed 40 of its solar power systems in the facilities and schools of Mount Diablo Unified School District. About 51 systems in total will be installed within this year.
It is anticipated that these systems will cut down $3 million electricity expenditure annually and $220 million in 30 years. Collectively, 12.1 MW of solar project creates over 140 jobs and introduces nearly $24 million into the local economy through suppliers and subcontractors.
The solar systems are installed in hard court regions and parking lots on shade structures and rooftops and uses SunPower solar panels with high efficiency. The solar panels are produced at Milpitas in California.
As per the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates, the solar plants will prevent nearly 400,000 t of CO2 emissions by next 30 years. This is equal to eliminating 70,450 cars off the highways in California.
Gary Eberhart, a School Board Member stated that during the first year, 92% of electrical expenditure spent from the common fund will be saved through this solar project and produce economical sources from the California Solar Initiative, which will save the fiscal sources required for classrooms and schools.
