Hawaii’s State Department of Education (DOE) has associated with RC Energy, Conergy and Hawaii Pacific Solar (HPS) to install a line of solar systems at public schools in Oahu, Hawaii.
The State Department of Education has taken this step to slit down electricity costs and follow sustainable practices.
RC Energy, a finance company focusing on energy sector, has funded the project, Conergy, a provider of solar systems, has supplied the required quality solar products and Hawaii Pacific Solar, a local clean-energy integrator will install the solar systems.
The first 122.675 kW installation has been completed by Hawaii Pacific Solar at the Aiea High School. The solar system consists of 522 Conergy modules, which are connected to a Conergy SunTop mounting system and produces nearly 174,000 kWh of power per year. The power produced avoids 264,600 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions equal to emissions from 270 barrels of oil or 13,428 gal of gasoline.
The Aiea High School will save over $500,000 of electricity cost in 20 years, the life period of a solar system.
According to the power purchase contract, HPS must install solar energy systems at Waianae, Kaimuki, Kahuku and Aiea high schools and RC Energy owns, operates and maintains the systems. Due to this contract, it is not necessary for DOE to bear any upfront cost for installation.
Further, according to the power purchase contract between RC Energy and Conergy, Conergy has assured to look after the construction and operation of the project for RC Energy. By the next one year, DOE’s additional locations will also be installed with solar systems.
