Boeing has been effectively able to bring down energy usage, hazardous-waste generation, greenhouse gas emissions, and water intake by 1% on an absolute basis in compliance with its five-year environmental goals for its internal operations that were formulated four years ago.
The fifth annual environment report of Boeing explains that despite the hard-hitting environmental goals to decrease its environmental footprint, business growth at Boeing has been steadily increasing with increased airplane production rates every month. Boeing’s five-year environmental goals were developed in 2007.
Kim Smith, Vice President of Environment, Health and Safety, stated that during the time taken to fulfill the goals to decrease its environmental footprint, two new airplanes were manufactured and supplied to the global market, 12,000 jobs were created, more than 25% increase in monthly production of jetliners has been achieved and additional manufacturing facilities totaling to over 1 million sq. ft. has been acquired by Boeing.
From the year 2007, Boeing has successfully been able to decrease energy usage by 1%, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 3%, water intake by 9%, and hazardous waste by 17%. The fifth annual environment report also mentions other activities undertaken by Boeing such as reducing the environment footprint from its global operations, manufacturing environmental-friendly products, and straightening out areas influenced by earlier business practices.
