The Arizona Technology Council’s committee, the Arizona Energy Consortium (AEC) has reported the update of the ‘Arizona Solar Strategic Plan. AEC is Arizona’s only broad-based energy sector organization.
The document, created as the Arizona Solar Leadership Conference’s product in November 2011 through the AEC, covers the execution of a sequence of recommended activities for sustained growth of Arizona’s solar industry.
The AEC’s Co-Chair and a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, Michelle De Blasi informed that partnership between solar energy participants is the significant factor identified for the growth of Arizona's solar industry. Executive Director of EnviroMission, Christopher Davey, who is also the Co-Chair of the AEC, stated that giving significance to the business community is also equally important. Efforts taken by the AEC are helping Arizona to gain a competitive edge for solar project development.
The update of the Arizona Solar Strategic Plan covers a debate on the status of initially outlined plans and a sequence of revised suggestions for specific plans. The Governor's Solar Task Force has forwarded a list of suggestions to get approval from the Governor to streamline the process of permission for distributed generation projects in order to make the state as the country’s friendliest regulatory site for distributed generation solar power projects.
Through ‘Project of State Significance’ program, the AEC's Project Development and Energy Infrastructure subcommittee is designing an accelerated permitting process for utility scale projects. The Town of Gila Bend has formed a Solar Field Overlay Zone to develop sustainable energy as well as growth and job creation on a regional basis.
