Ikehu Natural, a Hawaii-based startup company that focuses on clean technology, has received the Peak Energy Usage award from the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE). The award recognizes the company for developing Demand Response Incentive (DRIVE) System, a patent-pending solution that delivers incentives to residential customers to reduce power consumption during peak and critical peak times.
Ikehu team has also received a prize money of $6,000. The company has been invited to display its technology at an upcoming event, which is to be held in Washington, DC.
The technology provides power companies the capability to offer free airline miles to their customers. Ikehu hopes that the DOE award will create interest among energy companies across the world.
Holland Wood, CEO and Founder of the company, stated that utility companies will soon have the capability to employ airline miles in order to guide consumers about responsible energy consumption. Any power company can deploy the DRIVE platform, as it will use existing smartphone and web technologies. The system includes the DRIVE Mobile App and associated web services that allow companies to provide mileage-based incentives for consumers.
Karl Fooks, President of the Hawaii Strategic Development, remarked that the newly introduced Launch Akamai Venture Accelerator (LAVA) Program will help reinforce the entrepreneurial ecosystem and also aid startups like Ikehu to rapidly develop their businesses operations and contribute to Hawaii’s economy.
