The Green Campus Challenge has announced the winning teams in the first edition of challenge that aims to develop and analyze energy efficiency plans in Portuguese Universities.
The team A-Team + + from University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Science, won the first prize with an award of € 6,000. The second place with a prize of € 3,000 was awarded to ISEP Task Force at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, and the third place carrying a prize of € 1,500 was awarded to the IPB Green Campus School of Technology and Management of Braganza. The VIS-Renovate the Institute Manuel Teixeira Gomes in the Algarve team was awarded € 1,500 for the best behavioral measures and the EcoLogic, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon team was also awarded € 1,500 for the best technical measure.
The Technical University had launched the Green Campus initiative in 2011 through the Center for Studies in Innovation, Technology and Policy Development research center. The Intelligence in Innovation and Selfenergy has partnered in the program. The ERSE has provided the funds through its Plan for Promoting Efficiency in Consumption program, while Program MIT Portugal has supported the initiative.
The challenge saw over 81 multidisciplinary teams comprising 320 people from 49 institutions, which included technicians, teachers and students. Implementation of 12 of the best projects may help save 1.9 GKW annually.
The A-Team + + consisting of João Santos, André Malheiro, Ruben Teixeira, and Ricardo Henriques e Mário Silva performed an energy analysis of the C8 building at the University of Lisbon campus’ Faculty of Sciences. They differentiated the electrical and thermal energy sectors. For reducing energy consumption, they proposed behavioral and technical measures considering environmental, economic and energy factors.
