Keep America Beautiful Launches Recycle-Bowl Competition for School Students

Keep America Beautiful, a well-established education organization and volunteer-based community action in the U.S. and Nestle Waters North America jointly declared the opening of the second annual Recycle-Bowl youth recycling competition.

The event’s inaugural year welcomed over 1,200 of the nation’s elementary, middle- and high-schools. Totally, around 500,000 students took part in this inspiring and interactive event that included in-school recycling, highlighting waste reduction, thereby promoting the importance of environment. During the competition, around 67% of participating schools witnessed significant or a bit increase in the volume of materials being recycled at their school.

All U.S. schools are invited to register in this incentive-based recycling competition. The competition is scheduled to take place from Oct. 15 to Nov. 9, 2012, and will come to an end, marking America Recycles Day. Schools taking part in the competition will have to report the amount of recyclable material being gathered by them, which accounts for prize winning. At the end of this four-week competition, the highest amount of the most recyclable material per capita collected by school representing each state will receive $1,000 as prize. Then, a national champion will be selected from the statewide winners, who will be presented with an additional grand prize worth $2,500.

According to the president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, Matt McKenna, encouraging students to recycle at school emphasizes the significance of recycling. With recycling being reinforced with students, school facilities benefit by having enhanced capacity to recover more and more recyclable materials, revolutionizing the way wastes are being recycled.

The organization also offers online educational recycling activities via a registration toolkit. Nestle Waters North America sponsors this Recycle-Bowl.
