Ygrene Energy Fund Florida, a developer and administrator of energy upgrade programs, has commended the Town of Cutler Bay on being honored with the Florida League of Cities Environmental Stewardship Award.
Cutler Bay had established a Clean Energy Green Corridor PACE district by partnering with Ygrene Energy Fund and other Miami-Dade County communities. This partnership helped advance the clean energy goals of the region. The award recognizes its leadership in contribution towards the region’s economic development.
The Clean Energy Green Corridor is a groundbreaking program that is designed to improve administration, implementation, and financing for improving hurricane protection, energy efficiency and renewable energy in building projects. The program provides private funding for residential and commercial property owners to upgrade their energy without any installation cost. This will be repaid through the annual tax assessments for the property. This project is expected to create 4,500 jobs for the people, which cannot be outsourced. It will help the South Florida region reduce its CO2 emissions by more than 35,000 t. An economic stimulus of $750 million through the project will benefit the region.
The Mayor of Cutler Bay, Edward MacDougall, stated that the town was honored to receive the award. Cities in the U.S. must demonstrate leadership towards energy independence and economic recovery of the nation, he said.
The Florida League of Cities Environmental Stewardship Award is part of the 2012 Florida Municipal Achievement Awards.
