AT&T, a communications holding company, has announced that it has introduced a new line of wall and car USB chargers made using post-consumer recycled plastics. The new products are a part of the company’s green initiatives to provide sustainable products to its customers.
AT&T has used 30% of post-consumer recycled plastics in its new wall chargers. These chargers also conserve significant amount of energy by consuming the minimal power required when plugged in. These chargers have been designed with the intention of reducing "Vampire Draw" when the charger is not being used. Even if the wall charger is left plugged in for a year without being used, the power that it will consume will be equivalent to the power consumed by a 100 W bulb in a day. The new AT&T chargers exceed the 2013 efficiency standards specified by California's Energy Commission. These chargers have Energy Star 5 rating.
The wall chargers can be used internationally. They have increased amperage of 10 W/port. AT&T offers single and dual USB models with universal USB ports. They consume a low power of less than 0.3W when they are not being used. The vehicle power chargers are made of flame retardant materials and provide 5V 2 amp power.
AT&T has made significant progress in its sustainability initiatives over the past one year. It has created EcoSpace, a sustainability website focused on consumers, an eco-rating system for new postpaid handset devices sold under the AT&T brand, and a new recycling program for trading in devices. It is using 30% plant-based materials for its accessory packaging requirements.
