IDG Enterprise’s CIO magazine announced today that Covanta Energy, a world leader in sustainable waste management and renewable energy, is a recipient of the 2013 CIO 100 award for the second year in a row.
For the past twenty-six years, the annual awards program has honored organizations around the world for exemplifying the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).
“We are honored by this recognition and proud of our achievements in technology innovation,” said Stuart Kippelman, Chief Information Officer and vice president at Covanta Energy. “As the engine behind and enabler of innovation across the company, technology plays an integral role in maintaining Covanta’s leadership position in the Energy-from-Waste industry.”
Covanta’s Energy-from-Waste facilities provide a safe, sustainable waste disposal method that reduces greenhouse gases and produces clean, renewable energy from municipal solid waste. As a core component of this mission, Covanta’s IT team remains firmly focused on its end-user customers, delivering business applications across the enterprise including operations, sales, marketing and finance, while working to enhance efficiencies as well as the customer experience.
“For 26 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value,” said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & events. “Our 2013 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage.”
