Cobra Energia Awards 97 MW Wind Power Order in Peru to Siemens

Cobra Energia has awarded Siemens Energy another order to expand its onshore wind power fleet in Peru by 97 megawatts (MWs).

The Tres Hermanas wind power plant includes a combination of 25 direct drive SWT-3.0-108 wind turbines and eight geared SWT-2.3-108 units. The contract also includes six years of service and maintenance. The project is expected to be commissioned in July 2015.

The new wind power plant is the second project that Spanish wind developer Cobra Energia is executing with Siemens in Peru. In September 2013, Cobra Energia purchased 11 Siemens wind turbines with a total capacity of 32.1 MWs for the Marcona wind project. The Tres Hermanas project will be located near the city of San Juan de Marcona and adjacent to the Marcona wind project. Tres Hermanas was awarded as part of the second renewable energy tender by the Peruvian Government and contributes to Peru's energy goals to reduce its dependency on natural gas and decrease CO2 emissions.

"This second order from Cobra Energia allows both of our companies to further expand our wind power activities in a growing wind market. We are pleased to partner with Cobra Energia again to provide clean, renewable power to more than 90.000 households in Peru," said Mark Albenze, CEO of Siemens Energy's Wind Power Onshore Americas business. "The project is also important for our U.S. factories in Iowa and Kansas, from which we’ll export all of the blades and geared nacelles for Tres Hermanas."

Wind power and energy service are part of Siemens’ Environmental Portfolio. Around 43 percent of its total revenue stems from green products and solutions. That makes Siemens one of the world’s leading providers of eco-friendly technology.
