WGL Energy Joins with Georgia State Officials to Commemorate Opening of 1MW Solar Farm in Macon County

WGL Energy today joined with New Energy Equity LLC, Radiance Solar LLC, Stion Corporation and State of Georgia officials to celebrate the opening of a 1-megawatt (MW) solar farm in Macon County, Georgia.

The facility is expected to produce more than 1,600 megawatt hours (MWh) per year of electricity, enough to power more than 200 homes. WGL Energy Systems owns and operates the facility, which was completed in April 2015.

“This newest facility is a great addition in our continued commitment to increase renewable energy capacity in the state of Georgia,” said Sanjiv Mahan, Chief Operating Officer for WGL Energy Systems. “WGL Energy facilities in Georgia now total more than 21 MW of capacity, reducing carbon emissions for Georgia residents while also stimulating economic growth in the state.”

Under the Georgia Power Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI), Georgia Power purchases electricity from participating solar facilities under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The Montezuma, Georgia facility, the latest WGL Energy project in Georgia Power’s ASI program, was developed by New Energy Equity. Radiance Solar provided engineering, design and construction services, and installed more than 7,000 Stion Corporation frameless thin film solar modules.

"Radiance Solar is proud to have been selected to design and build the Montezuma facility and to be a part of the successful collaboration with WGL Energy, New Equity Energy and the Macon County officials,” said James Marlow, CEO of Radiance Solar. “We are excited to have incorporated one of the industry's newest technologies into the project with Stion's thin film modules."
