Perkins+Will Named A Winner of the Champion for Change Award

Perkins+Will, a global integrated design firm, will be named among the winners of the "Champion for Change Award," presented today at the 2008 Environmental Excellence award ceremonies. Sponsored by Practice Greenhealth, the "Champion for Change" awards recognize organizations that have successfully greened their own operations while helping others to reduce their impact on the environment. The Environmental Excellence award ceremony is being held in conjunction with CleanMed 2008, a global conference dedicated to addressing issues related to sustainable healthcare.

"Sustainable design is in the DNA of our corporate culture," said Jean Mah, Principal and Healthcare National Market Sector Leader for Perkins+Will. "We believe that it is our responsibility to make sustainability more than just a mission statement, but inherent to how we work and live. We are truly honored to be presented with such a prestigious award."

Perkins+Will’s commitment is demonstrated by the firm’s Sustainable Design Initiative (SDI) Strategic Plan. The plan creates a framework for improving the firm’s integrated design services, expanding knowledge and industry leadership, and minimizing operational impact in order to move towards a sustainable future. In 2007, Perkins+Will became the first multi-office company to commit to the 2030 Challenge, pledging that all of the firm’s projects be designed for carbon neutrality by the year 2030.

In addition to helping clients realize sustainable environments, Perkins+Will is making sure that its own facilities are environmentally-sensitive. The firm’s Green Operations Plan, implemented across Perkins+Will’s 1,300-person staff, establishes operational guidelines to ensure that every office incorporates sustainable design features, including: efficient HVAC systems; open office plans; resource-efficient, low-emitting and regionally-sourced materials; low-flow fixtures; daylighting; occupancy sensors; green roofs; and energy-efficient building envelopes.

Perkins+Will has more than 750 LEED® Accredited Professionals &ndash more than any other firm in the world. The firm currently has 17 projects registered with the Green Guide for Health Care and six LEED registered healthcare projects.
