The Quest to Design and Build Sustainable Buildings, Cities and Communities

A free-to-access virtual event to be held next month will explore the quest to design and build sustainable buildings, cities and communities.

The conference, called Sustainability Now, is to be held over two days and will include a unique mix of content and media on green design and construction.

Taking place on 1 and 2 July, the event is produced by leading UK business magazines Building, Building Design and Property Week. It is already proving popular -- over 1,800 construction, architecture and property professionals have already signed up to attend the event.

The event features speeches and presentations from leading global industry figures, including green author and broadcaster Herbert Girardet and Che Wall, former chair of the World Green Building Council. Both recently attended the Think08 event, a live conference that took place last month in London. Sustainability Now will also feature a 3D fly-through presentation of the new zero carbon city Masdar planned in Abu Dhabi, designed by world-renowned architects Fosters and Partners, and exclusive videos of zero carbon homes being built in the UK.

Also on hand at the show will be Carbon Coach Dave Hampton who will share his advice and expertise on tackling personal or company footprints with users.

Users will also be able to attend two online seminars, watch TV footage on green debates and buildings as well as visit green exhibitors and download reports from thought-leading organisations.

There will also be a strong interactive element to the show -- users can share information and opinions and network via instant messenger. A virtual lounge on the show floor will house discussions and debate.

Phil Clark, editorial director sustainability at CMP Information, which owns Building and Building Design said: "This show offers a whole new experience for our audience. You can watch video, listen to some audio, attend a seminar or meet and network with like-minded professionals, all from the comfort of your home or office. This is particularly powerful for those professionals grappling with sustainable design and construction, who are in desperate need for the latest information and best practice on creating green buildings and places."
