Scotland looks set to cement its reputation as a leader in innovation for sustainable food production when it hosts a global conference next month dedicated to animal health, agri-tech and aquaculture (A3).
Scotland is already a global A3 player in both research and the commercialisation of new technology. It is home to the largest cluster of animal bioscience and aquaculture researchers in Europe, and to a growing legion of successful agri-tech companies.
This world leading capability is attracting hundreds of international delegates from industry, finance, science and policy to the ‘A3 Scotland’ conference in Edinburgh on 26 and 27 April.
The event will explore what the transition to net zero means for sustainable food production and encourage opportunities for international collaboration and investment.
Speakers included Prof. Isacc Odeyemi, Senior Director with Zoetis International Operations; Prof. Jacqui Matthews, Chief Technology Officer with Roslin Technologies; Scotland’s Minister for Trade Investment & Innovation, Ivan McKee; and David Farquhar, Chief Executive of IGS.
The inaugural not-for-profit event is being organised by the Roslin Innovation Centre - University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the Life Sciences Scotland A3 Industry Leadership Group*. Zoetis is Platinum Sponsor.
Conference organiser, animal health and aquaculture specialist Dr Lawrence Brown, said:
“Scotland’s international reputation for excellence in A3 makes it a very apt location for the conference. For example, Roslin is an internationally recognised named in the field of life sciences - not least because it is the birthplace of Dolly the Sheep, the first animal to be cloned from an adult cell. We are looking forward to welcoming A3 thought leaders and investors from around world to discuss strategic partnerships.”
Sarah Heming, Zoetis Public Affairs Director for Northern Europe, said: “We are delighted to be supporting such an important event in Scotland and we are most definitely looking forward to having the chance to be there in person with many other great minds tackling the challenge of transitioning to net zero. Join us in Edinburgh for some productive discussions.”
The conference programme offers two days of expert speakers from across the sectors, panel discussions and networking opportunities. Wrapped around this are optional pre-and post-conference tours showcasing some of Scotland’s world class A3 facilities and expertise.
