Hyundai Unveils Environmentally Friendly Initiatives

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea's largest automaker, today revealed the logo for its new eco-friendly sub-brand, Blue DriveTM, an initiative which brings a host of new eco-friendly technologies and models to the global market.

Making its worldwide debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3rd, the Blue DriveTM logo epitomises Hyundai Motor’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner future, as well as to seeking a harmonious balance between cars and the environment.

The logo, to be affixed to all Blue DriveTM vehicles, displays imagery befitting eco-awareness. Firstly, the green leaf symbolizes Gaia, the life force of mother earth. Secondly, the blue color in Blue DriveTM conveys the image of purity of our blue oceans and blue skies, the major constants in our daily lives. Thirdly, to impart a feeling of dynamism and mobility all elements of the Blue DriveTM logo are italicized.

The first vehicle to bear the Blue DriveTM logo will be the i30 blue, also making its worldwide debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Demonstrating the company’s commitment to lowering CO2 emissions and reducing ownership costs for consumers, Hyundai brings ISG (Idle Stop and Go) technology to a production car for the first time. The i30 blue will be available in European showrooms by mid-2009.

This summer, Hyundai will take the Blue DriveTM initiative to the next level when the company’s first hybrid vehicle goes on sale in Korea. The Elantra LPI Hybrid will be the world’s first hybrid-electric vehicle to be powered by LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) fuel and Lithium Ion Polymer Batteries (LIPB).
