Everyone knows that wood flooring is an environmentally friendly flooring option, but when most people think about wood floors, they picture the traditional strip oak floors that are prevalent in the majority of homes in the United States. But advances in wood technology make it possible for homeowners to think outside the box when it comes to flooring design. The fact is, wood floors can be art, and the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
Each year, the National Wood Flooring Association sponsors the Wood Floor of the Year awards, which recognize innovative craftsmanship and design in wood flooring installations. The competition is international, and since the program began in 1990, 197 awards have been presented to NWFA member companies throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Russia and Finland.
This year's winning entries were recently announced at the NWFA's annual convention, which was held in Long Beach, California in April. Photos of all the 2009 winning entries, as well as photos of winning entries from previous years, can be viewed on the NWFA's web site at www.nwfa.org, under the Floor of the Year link.
