Ormat has developed a range of geothermal power plant configurations such as the geothermal combined cycle power plants, integrated geothermal combined power plants, binary power plants and 2-phase binary power plants.
Geothermal combined cycle power plant configurations from Ormat are suitable for areas with resources that are predominantly steam and non-condensable gas. It is the high pressure steam that functions a back pressure turbine in this power plant.
Low pressure steam, on the other hand, passes through the turbine leaving a positive pressure into the vaporizer. Once the low pressure steam is condensed, heat is produced that vaporizes the organic motive fluid. It is this process that expands the vapors and operates the organic turbine.
The condensed vapors are then let into a condenser and then pumped back into the preheater. An advantage of the geothermal combined cycle power plant from Ormat is that all the non-condensable gases (NCGs) are vented out of the system, without the wastage of any power or energy. The combined cycle process of the system is essential in applications such as air-cooling.
