Energy Conversion Devices announced on 14 December, 2009 that the company has signed an installation agreement with Endesa in Spain. Energy Conversion Devices is a leading world wide manufacturer of thin-film flexible solar laminate products. Through this agreement, Energy Conversion Devices along with Endesa will be involved in installing 3.0 MWp of UNI-SOLAR photovoltaic laminates on the rooftops of two Coco-Cola Company buildings in Seville.
The construction process of the rooftop system will be supervised by Energy Conversion Devices through its subsidiary unit, United Solar Ovonic. The construction of this rooftop system will start in this quarter and is expected to be completed in the first half of the year 2010. This rooftop system consists of UNI-SOLAR laminates attached to the Giscosa waterproofing system and directly applied on the roofs.
Andreu Cladera, Product Manager PV of Endesa Spain remarked that the company is pleased to work with Energy Conversion Devices and United Solar in its most recent and largest rooftop solar project. The low-load bearing rooftops in Spain perfectly suit the UNI-SOLAR laminates. Cladera commented that in comparison with other solar products, the UNI-SOLAR laminates are much more beneficial as they generate more electricity enabling the company to secure its finances for the project easily and they can also be installed and activated within a few months
Mark Morelli, Chief Executive Officer and President of Energy Conversion Devices, remarked that the agreement with Endesa predicts the company’s future success in its large projects. Morelli further remarked on Endesa’s ability to understand the importance of maintaining the quality of the rooftops through the usage of appropriate products and the financial benefits that will result as an outcome of the company’s installations.
