Advanced Energy Industries’ Solaron Photovoltaic Inverters Commissioned on 2-MW Solar Power Plant

Solaron photovoltaic inverters from Advanced Energy Industries have been commissioned on the two megawatt solar power plant at the Foothills Campus of Colorado State University. The Solaron products were selected for its high-efficiency, high-reliability as well for the company’s support and service. Considered as one of the largest solar installations, this 15 acre site is expected to meet more than 10% of Foothills Campus’ electricity requirements.

This new facility is the result of a public-private partnership between Xcel Energy, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) and Colorado State University. Xcel Energy is a chief regional utility supplier and Fotowatio Renewable Ventures is a leading independent power producer. The solar array is being constructed by an international engineering and project management company, AMEC. Power production commenced in this facility in the beginning of December 2009 and by the beginning of the year 2010, the facility is expected to be completely commissioned.

Dr. Hans Betz, CEO and President of Advanced Energy, remarked that the company considers it to be a privilege to be working with leading companies in order to develop solar energy solutions and to supply the Foothills Campus with renewable and clean energy. Betz stated that the lowest levelized cost of energy and the maximum power harvest will be provided by Solaron inverters. Colorado State University’s involvement in renewable energy is regarded as an appropriate example for businesses all over the country and also for other universities.
