Reykjanesvirkjun Geothermal Power Plant

The power plant at Reykjanesvirkjun, constructed by HS Orka HF, began its operations in May 2006 after a number of tests as well as a test run. The control room, which is responsible for the entire process at Reykjanesvirkjun, is located at a distance in Svartsengi. The Reykjanesvirkjun power plant is one of its kind, as it is the first in Iceland to be equipped with two 50 MW twin steam turbines. These steam turbines utilize a separated pumping system that has an overall capacity of 2 x 2000 liters per second. Each of these turbines requires six sea holes and about five or six operating holes for their functioning.

Each steam turbine at the Reykjanesvirkjun power plant, developed by HS Orka HF, consists of major components such as a steam utility system, a condensate drainage system, pre-separators, silencers, sea lids, moist separators, steam chimneys and control systems. The jet shaft of the power plant comprises an enclosed shaft that can house the cooled water, condensate and subterranean water. The output capacity of the Reykjanesvirkjun power plant is about 100 MW.
