Evergreen Solar’s String Ribbon solar panels were chosen for an installation at the shopping and entertainment complex, Patriot Place. The complex measures 1.3 million square feet and stands adjacent to Gillette Stadium in New England.
The power panels, which are based on Evergreen Solar’s proprietary wafer technology, will meet 30% of the power needs of the complex and are expected to supply over 12 million kilowatts of electricity in a span of 20 years. The 525kW installation is expected to lower carbon dioxide discharge by 8,800 metric tons annually, equivalent to the taking about 1,600 cars off the road. Constellation Energy’s Projects & Services Group will construct the solar installation.
The solar energy system at Patriot Place will comprise over 2,800 ES-A series panels and span the roofs of seven buildings, one of which will be Raytheon’s “The Hall at Patriot Place.” Victors to the upper retail plaza and at Gillette Stadium will be able to see these solar panels.
Constructed using sustainable design techniques, Patriot Place features white roofs and low-emitting construction materials, which help to achieve significant island heat reduction. The on-site water recycling system saves several million gallons of water per year, while the solar-powered trash receptacles bring down energy consumption and waste volume.
Expressing pleasure on being chosen as supplier by Patriot Palace, Director Sales for the Americas of Evergreen Solar, Alan King, commented that both parties’ environmental goals align well and the project represents an encouraging example of solar power viability. Brian Earley, General Manager of Patriot Place, expressed pride in contributing towards the promotion of commercial applications that are cost-effective and practical, while supporting sustainability initiatives.
