An order for 24 units of the V90-2.0 megawatt wind turbine was received by Vestas. The V90-2.0 megawatt wind turbines are to be installed in Huelva in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia. A five-year service agreement, a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution, supply and installation are part of the project. Additional details with reference to the project and the customer are withheld at customer’s request.
Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean, remarked that the company is pleased to announce the order of 24 units as it highlights the fact that wind projects are continuously carried out in the country. The constant development of wind power that is supported by the recent announcement made by the Spanish government about the newly approved MW wind power is also highlighted by the announcement of this order.
Miguel Picardo, General Manager of Vestas Iberia, remarked that Andalusia is considered as the fourth autonomous community based on its accumulated installed wind capacity in Spain, which has amounted to a total of 1,795 megawatts of installed wind capacity as per January 2009. Picardo stated that the company is delighted to be helping this region to increase the wind capacity.
Every year the environment will be saved from an excess of 39,700 tons of carbon dioxide by the wind power plant. Since 31st December 2008, a total of 2,232 wind turbines were delivered by Vestas to the Spanish market, which is equal to 2,646 MW. In the year 2008, 24.5 percent of the total wind capacity that is installed in Spain was delivered by Vestas.
