Energy Conversion Devices and Enfinity Corporation to Develop Rooftop Solar Installations in Ontario, Canada

A joint development of 10MW portfolio of rooftop solar installations in Ontario, Canada was announced by Energy Conversion Devices and Enfinity Corporation.

Taking advantage of Ontario’s new feed-in-tariff program, the partnership between these two companies is to develop a series of solar rooftop projects in Ontario, Canada. The projects are anticipated to be completed during the calendar year 2010 by the companies. Energy Conversion Devices will be supplying a combination of its new PowerTilt product and UNI-SOLAR photovoltaic laminates through United Solar Ovonic, its wholly owned subsidiary.

The rooftop installations will be carried out on various types of roofing materials. The new PowerTilt from Energy Conversion Devices is lightweight, has higher energy production and easy to install making perfectly suitable for the Ontario market. During the construction phase of the projects, development equity will also be provided by Energy Conversion Devices.

Energy Conversion Devices’ president and CEO, Mark Morelli, said that the company is delighted to be collaborating for the Ontario project with Enfinity. He commented that after the announcement of Framework Agreement with Enfinity last year, the companies so far has collaborated on about 6MW of projects in France and Belgium.

Rafael Dobrzynski, CEO of Enfinity, said that the company considers Energy Conversion Devices to be one of its important global partners and both the companies are moving forward on this co-development project quickly. Rafael Dobrzynski added that Ontario’s feed-in-tariff structure provides higher incentives for distributed rooftop solar power, which benefits investors.
