Rivermoor Energy announced that the construction for the Boston’s largest solar project is set to commence this month. The 240-kW project is jointly developed by Fischbach & Moore Electrical Group, Rivermoor and Zapotec Energy. It is sited at the headquarters of Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC). The output from the project is connected to the NSTAR grid.
The project, which was awarded on January 29th, requires the installation of a 240-kW photovoltaic system on the rooftop of BWSC building in Boston. The $1.075 million project, which leverages Massachusetts' Solar Renewable Energy Credits, will require about three months to be completed. About 15 green jobs will also be created by the project in Massachusetts. When the project is completed, it is expected to produce about 268,000 kilowatt hours of power per annum, which is equivalent to 7% of power used by the Commission at present.
John Tourtelotte, Managing Director of Rivermoor Energy, said the company was happy to combine the financial and utility-scale solution for this BWSC project to maximize the energy credits as well as government incentives. Tourtelotte added further that the company was delighted to help to create jobs and provide clean energy in Massachusetts.
Chairman, President and CEO of Boston-based NSTAR, Tom May, said the utility was happy to be working with the consortium for this project and delighted to see another clean energy being connected to the NSTAR grid. Commending Mayor Menino's efforts to make Boston a green city, Tom May said that this project demonstrates how renewable energy projects can provide benefit for the local economy as well as help to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.
