Calpine has established a number of power plants that provide clean and safe electricity to customers. Some of these power plants include Auburndale Peaking Energy Center, Baytown Energy Center, Blue Spruce Energy Center, Bethapage Power Plant and Brazos Valley Power Plant.
The Auburndale Peaking Energy Center, a power project completed by Calpine, is a major source of electricity during high demand or peak periods. The electricity generated is sold in the wholesale merchant market. The electricity produced in this power plant is distributed to the region of Florida. This power plant is able to meet the growing demands of electricity in the region as well as works in collaboration with the Tampa Electric transmission grid. This power plant generates electricity by utilizing natural gas or distillate fuel as its primary fuel.
The base load capacity of the Auburndale Peaking Energy Center, established by Calpine, is 0 megawatt, with a peaking base load capacity of 116 megawatts. This power plant began functioning in August 2002 and utilizes Siemens Westinghouse combustion turbine for its operations. Owned and operated wholly by Calpine, this power plant serves the NERC region of FRCC.
