Trina Solar Announces Breakthrough in Monocrystalline Cell Technology Development

Trina Solar, a leading producer of integrated solar PV products, announced that it has accomplished a breakthrough in the development of its monocrystalline cell technology.

Trina Solar, utilizing its advanced cell manufacturing process, has developed a square monocrystalline cell that is capable of providing enhanced power output. The advanced cell structure was developed by using specially designed techniques in the metallization and passivation processes. The new technology is expected to substantially improve the efficiency of cell conversion. In test laboratory production, it is expected to achieve up to 18.8% efficiency.

Trina Solar's Chairman and CEO, Jifan Gao, said that the company R&D team’s competence is demonstrated with this achievement of breakthrough in monocrystalline cell technology. Jifan Gao said the company will further advance its R&D program and was hopeful of achieving more than 20% cell conversion efficiencies in the next two years.
