EDP Renewables Announces Power Purchasing Agreement for Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm

Horizon Wind Energy, a subsidiary of EDP Renewables, has entered into a 20-year contract for the sale of wind power with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a U.S. government owned corporation. Under the terms of the power purchase agreement, TVA will purchase 115 MW of wind energy generated from EDP Renewables’ fist phase of Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm, located in Iowa.

Businesses and households in seven southeastern states that are covered by TVA will receive wind energy generated from Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm. Chief Executive Officer of EDP Renewables, Ana Maria Fernandes, said this agreement is company’s first power purchase contract with TVA and is looking forward to collaborate with the company to supply clean energy to TVA’s customers.

With an installed capacity of 300 MW, the Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm generates enough electricity to meet the needs of 90,000 American households per year. EDP Renewables will be selling the power generated from Pioneer Prairie Wind Farm’s second phase to AmerenUE.
