TXU Energy Collaborates with SolarCity to Launch Affordable Solar Program in Texas

TXU Energy in partnership with SolarCity has launched an innovative solar program in North Texas that will provide the homeowners in the region with solar power systems that may enable them to save money from day one on energy costs.

The solar lease option in the program takes care of all aspects of the system including installation and monitoring for a monthly fee that is cheaper than the most cell phone monthly plans. Repairs and insurance are also included in the lease option plan. For example, a residential solar system with a capacity of 4 kW, which is suitable for an average home with 3 or 4 bedrooms, would cost about $35 per month initially without any upfront cost for the client. The same solar system is available for customers for outright purchase price of $26,000 without including federal tax incentives or rebates.

Jim Burke, CEO of TXU Energy, said the company is providing the Texan homeowners with affordable solar systems. Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity, said the solar lease program allows the homeowners in North Texas to adopt clean energy solutions at less the cost of grid electricity. The company is expecting to see more Texans adopt solar power through this offer, Rive added.
