Vanguard Energy Partners has completed the installation of two solar electric systems for Sparta and Hardyston’s municipalities. The project will enable the municipalities to offset their electricity bills and advance the eco-friendly initiatives of the Sussex County, New Jersey towns.
Vanguard Energy has installed a solar photovoltaic system with a capacity of 88 kW on the rooftop of the municipal building in Sparta. The solar photovoltaic system, which comprises 377 solar modules, will produce about 97,160 kWh per annum. The solar electricity system will generate enough power to meet 15% of the electricity needs of the Sparta's municipal building.
Sparta's director of technology, Mike Dempsey, said that the project will serve to save taxpayer money while adopting green initiatives. According to Dempsey, the project will generate $1 million in savings and by selling SRECs (solar renewable energy credits).
The solar power system in Sparta will also help to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 129,827 pounds per annum, which is equal to preserving 137 barrels of oil or 6,624 gallons of gasoline.
The solar photovoltaic system in Hardyston Township was installed on top of a solar system support structure. The structure will also serve as a carport for vehicles belonging to the police department. The solar power system, which comprises 324 modules, is capable of generating about 77,196 kWh per annum.
Marianne Smith, Hardyston Township Manager, said that the town will save about $250,000 in energy costs over a period of 15 years as well as generate additional revenue of $935,000 through the sale of SRECs.
