Mitsui Engineering and Inbicon Sign Biomass Refinery Technology License Agreement

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, a leading industry company in Japan, has signed a license agreement with Inbicon to use its biomass refinery technology. Inbicon, a company based in Denmark, is leading developer of cellulosic ethanol technology in the world.

The agreement, which is Inbicon’s first licensing sale, allows Mitsui to develop several biomass refineries in region of Southeast Asia utilizing cellulosic ethanol technology from Inbicon. Mitsui Engineering aims to convert wastes that are generated during the production of palm oil into ethanol. It is a biofuel that can be used for producing energy.

Director of Mitsui, Shunichi Yamashita, the company has taken a significant step by signing this agreement to advance its plans for developing plant engineering business for the manufacture of ethanol in Southeast Asia. The company has already committed significant amount of resources for establishing this new ethanol production business. In addition, the company is anticipating entering into other markets in collaboration with Inbicon, Yamashita said.

CEO of Inbicon, Niels Henriksen, said the license agreement is the outcome of the company’s partnership with Mitsui Engineering for about 12 months that began with their testing of palm waste for use as feedstock. The company is delighted to award the first license to Mitsui Engineering for using its ethanol technology, Henriksen added.
