United Technologies Corp.’s company, UTC Power, announced that its PureCell Model 400, a new 400 kW fuel cell system, has been certified by California Air Resources Board (CARB) to meet its latest emission standards, which is the most stringent in the U.S.
UTC Power has received the Distributed Generation Certification from CARB for the PureCell Model 400 system. Neal Montany, director, UTC Power stationary fuel cell business, said the company is delighted to receive the certification for its 400 kW fuel cell system and now it can be deployed at businesses in the fast-growing market in California.
As per the distributed generation certification program in California, electrical generation product manufacturers that are exempt from requirements of district permit, should get their technologies certified to certain emission standards before they can be deployed in California. One of the most cleanest and efficient sources for generating electricity is fuel cell. Fuel cells produce heat, water and electricity through an electrochemical process.
Fuel cell systems from UTC Power will be installed in an upcoming Whole Foods Market store in San Jose, California, and another 400-kilowatt fuel cell at St. Helena's Hospital located in Napa Valley in California.
