With the approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission for its first solar power engineering contract, Detroit Edison is all set to commence its own commercial-scale solar projects at different locations across its service area in Southeastern Michigan.
Nova Consultants Inc. was awarded the one-year, 18-million contract. The contract involves feasibility study, design, and installation of up to 3 MW of photovoltaic solar systems on facilities that are owned by Detroit Edison as well as customers.
DTE Energy vice president, Retail Marketing, Trevor Lauer, said that in addition to providing its larger clients with several new energy opportunities, this contract will also benefit the whole region with economic development. Lauer further said the company evinces interest to install solar PV systems at non-profit organizations, educational institutions and businesses.
Nova Consultants, which was founded in 1992, provides full-service engineering, energy and environmental services. The company has projects in various markets such as utility, automotive, and educational throughout North America. Nova will collaborate with companies in Michigan to finish the installation of the solar power systems.
