The Golden Field Office and Department of Energy (DOE) has granted a blanket purchase agreement to R.W. Beck, a 100% subsidiary of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to support the Biomass Program of The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The blanket purchase agreement with a ceiling of $21 million expires on 30th September 2015.
The Biomass Program in partnership with academia, national laboratories, and industry works on biomass feedtocks research and conversion technologies. The objective of the program is to commercialize integrated biorefineries through development and demonstration projects thus helping the country to convert its ample biomass resources into high performance, cost competitive biopower, bioproducts and biofuels.
DOE has announced recently, as part of the Biomass Program, that it will provide partial funding support for the construction of 18 integrated ethanol biorefinery demonstration and pilot projects for the development and potential commercialization of algae and cellulosic derived biochemical and biofuel production in the country. Under the terms of the blanket purchase agreement, R.W. Beck will be DOE's independent engineer on these 18 projects providing various support services.
J.T. Grumski, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, said the company is well-experienced to provide renewable technologies support services for projects to commercial as well as government customers. The company fully understands the complexities related with ethanol biochemicals and biofuels and their implementation in the market, Grumski added.
