U.S. Green Building Council has awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification to two office towers at Piedmont Town Center, Charlotte, North Carolina.
Piedmont Town Center comprises two towers for office use with total area of 415,000 square feet, retail space of about 75,000 square feet and luxury residential units numbering 180. Piedmont Natural Gas’ headquarters is housed in the office complex and the two eight-story buildings are connected by a street system that is pedestrian-friendly with shopping, parking, recreation, dining located nearby.
Pam Padgett, vice president of property management for Crescent Resources, said the company is delighted with LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the two office towers, which places them among elite green facilities in Charlotte.
Piedmont Town Center, which is owned by Principal Real Estate Investors, was awarded the LEED certification under the existing buildings operations and maintenance program of the U.S. Green Building Council. The objective of the program is to minimize the impact on environment and maximize efficiency through recycling, maintenance, cleaning, and upgrading the systems.
The property management team from Crescent Resources worked for the last 16 months to achieve this LEED certification. A Dallas-based company, LORD Green Real Estate Strategies was the LEED consultant for the project. The commissioning services for the project were provided by Transwestern, a Houston-based company.
