Pattern Energy, a fully integrated, independent energy company with operations in Latin America, Canada, and the United States, has awarded an order to Siemens Energy to supply 60 units of 2.3-MW SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines to be in installed at St. Joseph wind farm located in the Manitoba, Canada.
For Siemens, this is the first wind turbine order in this province. Besides supplying the wind turbines, the company has to provide technical help during erecting and commissioning of the wind turbines. The scope of the contract also includes maintenance and service of the wind turbines for a period of two years. The installation of the turbines is expected to commence in September 2010 and be completed by 2010 end. The St. Joseph wind facility with a total installed capacity of 138 MW is anticipated to provide green power to over 50,000 households in Manitoba.
Senior Vice President, Siemens Canada Limited, Bill Smith, said that the company is delighted to have been selected by Pattern Energy to supply wind turbines for the St. Joseph wind farm. The company attaches much significance to this order, since it represents Siemens’ first wind turbine order in this province. The company has much success in the Ontario province and hopes to build on the success in the province of Manitoba also.
A total of 196 units of 2.3-MW wind turbines will have been installed by Siemens in Ontario by the 2010 year end. These include 86 wind turbines at Wolfe Island wind farm of Canadian Hydro, 44 units at Port Alma wind farm owned by Kruger Energy, 44 wind turbines at Chatham wind farm of Kruger Energy and 22 units at Brookfield Renewable Power’s Gosfield wind farm.
