To support its expansion plans, Flextronics has earmarked the development of Clean Tech Super Site spanning an area of one million square feet at its Port of Tanjung Pelepas facility in Malaysia. This move fortifies the company’s leadership position the global market for solar modules and complements its Clean Tech strategy of providing smart grid, inverters, wind power, energy-efficient lightning and smart metering solutions to OEMs across the world.
At the Clean Tech Super Site, the company expects to initiate major technical advances and supply chain optimization in the solar energy industry. The site’s strategic location and localized resources support the realization of cost and logistic benefits that will encourage outsourcing among OEMs.
In the next couple of years, Flextronics plans to increase the annual solar module production capacity of the site to one Gigawatt. Capitalizing on its already operational solar module production services and customer relationships with major players such as SolarEdge, Carmanah, Oerlikon and Cree Lighting, Flextronics foresees no hurdles to achieving its targets.
Pleased with the expansion progress, President E.C. Sykes stated that the Clean Tech site development further supports Flextronics’ ability to provide OEMs with robust solar solutions. The combination of wafer and cell operations and customer proximity makes and established Malaysia ideal for the Clean Tech site development.
