Capital Power Corporation Receives Contract for Proposed Port Dover & Nanticoke Wind Project

Capital Power Corporation has received a contract for its proposed Port Dover & Nanticoke Wind Project (PDNW) by means of the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program of Ontario Power Authority (OPA).

Estimated to cost around $340 million, the project has a capacity of 105 MW. Commercial operation on the project is likely to begin by late 2012. The project’s construction depends on regulatory approvals, such as the completion of Renewable Energy Approval (REA) process of Ontario.

The CEO and President of Capital Power Brian Vaasjo stated that the company will invest around $800 million on PDNW in addition to its Quality Wind Project located in British Columbia.

The proposed project falls in the areas of Haldimand and Norfolk counties of Ontario. Currently, the company runs the 40 MW Kingsbridge I Wind Power project in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Ontario.

The proposal for the company’s Kingsbridge II Wind Power Project (Kingsbridge II) with 270 MW capacity will be evaluated by the OPA with the Economic Connection Test to determine the economic feasibility of the project.
